Currently, I am a Policy and Budget Analyst for the Illinois State Senate through the Illinois Legislative Staff Intern Program. In this role, I staff both the State Senate Executive and Financial Institutions Committees and analyze the bills that go through those two Committees. Staffing the Committees has provided me with invaluable experience in navigating the intricacies of the legislative process. Through analyzing bills that come before these committees, I have honed my ability to assess proposed legislation, identify potential impacts, and formulate comprehensive briefing materials to aid senators in their decision-making. Additionally, in this role, I review budget proposals from state agencies and evaluate their impacts on state government operations, businesses, and taxpayers. This has sharpened my analytical abilities and equipped me with a keen understanding of fiscal policy. Before my employment with the Illinois State Senate, I interned for Wisconsin Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu. My responsibilities included counseling and drafting letters to constituents, scheduling for Senator LeMahieu, attending hearings, monitoring local government meetings, researching bills, and assisting with additional office duties assigned to me. I was the main point of contact for the constituents and remained active with Senator LeMahieu’s constituents by responding to emails, and phone calls, and sending out “Saw You In The News” to his constituents when I saw them in a newspaper. Through this internship, I learned how to work independently, perform multiple tasks at once, and communicate and work effectively with constituents. Alongside my background at the state government level, I also bring knowledge from working within local government. I interned for the DuPage County Board during the summer of 2022. I worked in a bipartisan manner where I produced written communications and briefing memos. I drafted ordinances and reviewed state legislation that affected Illinois metropolitan counties. I revised parts of the DuPage County website, maintained, and updated various spreadsheets and databases, and worked on mid-year strategic planning updates for the county. I attended all Committee and County Board Meetings along with meetings with various county departments. This opportunity improved my writing and communication skills, broadened my understanding of viewpoints in local public policy, and improved my research skills. My experience of working for two different states and Illinois’s second largest county makes me a uniquely qualified candidate. I can bring new ideas and a fresh perspective on how to further strengthen our Country and improve the lives of our residents, businesses, communities, agriculture, and economy. I know how to communicate effectively with constituents, write clearly and concisely, and read and interpret bills. These are skills I have learned through my previous work experiences and will bring to my next employment. Again, my background and skills make me an excellent candidate. I work incredibly hard, diligently, and am organized. Many thanks and I deeply appreciate your consideration of my application.
