Staff Assistant Position Description

The American Action Network (AAN) and American Action Forum (AAF) have a shared opening for a full-time staff
assistant at their headquarters in Washington, DC. This role serves as the primary greeter for visitors and the first
contact that those outside of the organizations have with the office. Friendliness, professional competence in
interacting with others, and a proactive, helpful attitude are key to the effective performance of this role, which serves
both AAN and AAF. Normal expected work hours for this position are 9AM to 5PM Monday through Friday. The role
reports both to AAN's DOO and AAF's COO, and assists other staff as needed.

Responsibilities
• Welcomes visitors in person or on the telephone; answers and refers inquiries.
• Oversees on-line calendar of conference room reservations.
• Works with the building staff to ensure all mail is delivered appropriately.
• Works with Management to make sure kitchen is fully stocked and problems with office appliances or
supplies are promptly addressed.
• Coordinates with the events team on catering requests; works closely with outsourced conference services
personnel to ensure room set-ups and take-down and food/beverage needs are covered.
• Follows security protocol and procedures for clients and guests; monitors logbook; issues visitor badges and
validates parking as appropriate, and
• Assists with various projects as needed.

Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent as well as college education required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• High computer literacy and skill with MS Office and other software
• Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
• Professional telephone manner
