Job description

NOTE: This is a mid-career position for non-academic public affairs research professionals. If you do not have the requisite experience described below, we encourage you to apply for our Associate Training Program listed on our Careers Page.

Who We Are: Delve is a competitive intelligence and risk advisory firm based in Washington, D.C. that produces breakthrough insights through competitive intelligence services for companies’ and causes’ public affairs challenges. These insights provide our clients with an information advantage to help them anticipate and mitigate their political and reputational risk. Delve’s Life Sciences clients include major drug developers, venture-backed  life sciences startups, direct healthcare providers, and industry advocacy groups. Founded in 2015, Delve has been recognized by The Washington Post, Politico, TheBridge, and others for our work.

The Opportunity: As our Life Sciences client base continues to grow, we are looking for a Research Analyst or Senior Research Analyst who is ready to continue building their research and communications skills through work on high-profile public affairs issues in healthcare and pharmaceutical related sectors.  Our research analysts produce high-quality, forward-looking reports to inform high-profile clients about trends and issues that may impact their policy and business interests.  They also monitor the actions of key stakeholders – i.e. activists, policymakers, business leaders, etc. – in the news and on social media as well as primary sources. Our clients utilize our research and analysis to bring next generation cures, treatments, and diagnostics to market; protect their reputations, practices, and intellectual property; tell their story to policymakers and stakeholders; and anticipate risks and opportunities in the life sciences sector.

Who You Are: You are a detail-oriented researcher whose insatiable curiosity drives you to dig deeper for information, ask tougher questions, and learn faster through experience. You are:

  • Politically-attuned with at least 2 years of real-world experience in politics and public policy as a researcher in a non-academic, professional setting such as a campaign or party committee, federal or state legislative office, trade association, or public affairs firm; preferably with some knowledge in life sciences or health-related sectors;
  • Passionate about making an impact for clients with public affairs challenges and a belief that a prosperous society begins with a robust free market;
  • A strong writer – able to communicate effectively and concisely;
  • A thoughtful researcher – comfortable with independently gathering information and analyzing it, armed with nothing but your headphones, laptop, and an internet connection.

Roles and Responsibilities: Our research analysts produce detailed, comprehensive, and 100% accurate reports on the individuals (public figures, activists, legislators, political candidates, etc.) and organizations (PACs, trade associations, advocacy groups, etc.) engaging on the issues that matter to our clients. You will be expected to:

  • Produce client-facing background reports on individuals and organizations that analyze their positions and actions related to the life science and healthcare issues that impact our clients.
  • Monitor the actions of key stakeholders – i.e. activists, policymakers, business leaders, etc. – in the news and on social media.
  • Build and maintain research files for our clients in collaboration with other members of our research team.
  • And for senior analysts, contribute to training and support for fellow team members and associates, including editing and review of draft reports.

Life At Delve: Delve has offered a hybrid work environment before the crowd because what matters here is getting the work done right, not where or how. Here, Delve is a team, period. Employees work collaboratively across all levels to deliver the best product to our clients. Each team member comes with a unique background and we encourage them to share their strengths with all involved while absorbing knowledge and training for their fellow team members and leaders.

At the office, employees take advantage of an in-building fitness center and rooftop overlooking The White House—a great place to get fresh air and enjoy lunch. Even as employees man the front lines of major public affairs and political fights, they take advantage of educational advancement opportunities—in-house and on company time—to expand their skillset and develop professionally because, like our approach to research, there is always more to learn.

Delve employees  enjoy a generous benefits package including health insurance, 401(k) matching, pre-tax commuter benefits, disability insurance, life insurance, and unlimited telecommuting and sick days, so employees’ 12 paid vacation days per year (plus federal holidays) are actually for vacation, not waiting for WiFi repair at home and heading to the dentist.
