Job description

House Republican is looking to hire a Legislative Correspondent for the Washington, DC office.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • to provide research for and respond to letters from constituents; and
  • to provide support to the legislative team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • strong research, writing and communication skills;
  • knowledge of the legislative process;
  • strong organizational skills;
  • ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the formulation and recommendation of policy positions for the Member;
  • ability to work as a team player, cooperatively and courteously with others;
  • thoroughness and attention to detail; and • ability to work in a fast-paced office environment

DUTIES:

  • answers assigned constituent letters, including any research necessary to formulate an adequate response to the letters;
  • monitors and batches incoming messages;
  • develops and maintains a collection of prepared text for use in responding to constituent mail;
  • drafts form letters to respond to a large number of letters on the same issue;
  • consults with the legislative team to keep the form letters up to date;
  • supervises the printing and proofreading of form letters;
  • drafts responses to constituent mail that cannot be answered with a form letter;
  • provides assistance as required, including meeting with constituents and interested parties, and attending committee hearings and markups;
  • performs other duties as assigned.
