Job Opening: Development Manager
About Us:IRLI is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced full-time Development Manager to lead our major gifts program. This position is based at our Washington, D.C. headquarters and reports directly to the Executive Director.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead the cultivation and management of a major donor portfolio, including identifying, engaging, and stewarding individuals and organizations capable of making significant contributions.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual calendar of major gift stewardship activities, ensuring regular and meaningful touchpoints with major donors and prospects.
- Coordinate and oversee the planning and logistics of special events, both in-person and virtual, to engage major donors. This includes organizing donor briefings, personal meetings, and presentations.
- Craft personalized, printed acknowledgments, handwritten thank-you notes, and regular informational mailings to major donors and prospects, nurturing relationships and keeping them informed about our mission work.
- Serve as the primary contact for all donor communication, promptly responding to emails, phone calls, information requests, and other inquiries.
- Provide support to the administrative and accounting teams by assisting with in-house mail processing, database gift entry, and reconciliation. Maintain accurate and updated records of major gift portfolio activities in the database.
- Manage foundation grant applications, ensuring adherence to deadlines and reporting requirements. Assist in the drafting, assembling, and mailing of grant proposals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit development, with a focus on major gifts and donor stewardship.
- Strong understanding of IRLI's mission and alignment with the organization's goals.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and sound judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire major donors.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to representing IRLI with professionalism.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Team player with self-starting abilities, flexibility, and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Previous experience working with CRM/donor databases is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
