The Lukens Company (TLC) is an award-winning full-service marketing agency that is seeking a Advocacy Strategist to join our Advocacy Practice in our Arlington, VA office. The Advocacy Practice specializes in voter mobilization, issue advocacy, and public affairs programs for leading state and national trade associations, business groups, political action committees (PACs), nonprofit organizations, and coalitions.

The Advocacy Strategist will develop campaigns for organizations to elect their legislative champions to office, create engaging and disruptive content that wins hearts and inspires action, and strengthen political programs of leading trade associations to win in the court of public opinion and at the ballot box for our clients. And you’ll be doing it all alongside the best team in politics. You’ll be a good fit for our team if you can balance big picture national political work with fine print details in client proposals and projects simultaneously. Our best team members are skilled at building relationships and challenge themselves to think creatively about strategy, tactics, and data.

What you’ll be doing

  • Engaging clients in meaningful ways to identify needs, solve problems, and exceed expectations
  • Brainstorming strategy, crafting creative concepts, implementing tactics, and interpreting results
  • Moving projects, presentations, and proposals along to meet important benchmarks and deadlines
  • Working with internal teams including political and digital specialists, graphic designers, web developers, copywriters, and production managers
  • Identifying potential client partners and their needs
  • Creating and cultivating relationships within the industry
  • Staying abreast of advocacy and public affairs industry trends and best practices
  • Pursuing professional goals of your own within the company

About you

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience including working for a political or public affairs agency, trade association, political action committee (PAC), coalition, Hill office, or political campaign
  • Strong customer services skills and the ability to establish and maintain goodwill with our conservative clients
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated capability to mange multiple projects, prioritize a variety of tasks, and think on your feet to meet ever-changing needs and deadlines
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous detail-orientation
  • Ability to share original ideas, lead a team, and take ownership of projects
  • Comfortable being a part of business development efforts and working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment with quick turnarounds
  • Results-oriented and team-first attitude
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the inclination to learn and grow professionally
  • Desire to work for a values-driven company that seeks to improve the world for the better
